Privacy policy
Last updated: September 7, 2026
This policy explains what GoodFat does with your information. We wrote it in plain language so you can understand it.
1. The short version
- Food photos are not saved. A photo may be sent once to identify the food, then discarded. We do not keep a photo library of your meals.
- We do not sell your data. We do not share your food log or profile with advertisers or data brokers.
- We use a few service partners only to run the app (hosting, food identification, and paywalls). Details are below.
- You can delete your account anytime in Settings.
2. Who we are
GoodFat (“we,” “us”) is the GoodFat mobile app and website at goodfatbadfat.com. Questions: support@goodfat.app.
3. Food photos (important)
When you take or pick a meal photo, GoodFat may send that image to our secure backend, which briefly passes it to Google Gemini so the app can suggest what food is on the plate.
We do not save your food photos. We do not store them in your food log, and we do not keep a photo album on our servers. We may record only that an AI request “included an image” (a yes/no flag) for usage limits — never the image itself.
Temporary copies may exist for a short time while the request is processed. After that, they are discarded under our normal systems. Google’s processing of the image during that request is also subject to Google’s terms for the Gemini API.
4. What we collect
Account
GoodFat can run with an anonymous account so you do not need an email to start. If you add a name or email in your profile, we store those fields with your account id.
Food log
Foods you confirm (name, amount, nutrition fields, inflammatory score, and related details such as barcode or source). This is how your Today / Weekly / Monthly views work.
Chat and AI usage
Messages you send in Ask/Chat, and limited usage records (tokens, model, request type, and whether an image was attached). Chat history may also stay on your device.
On-device nutrition pack
A large US food catalog (sourced from public data such as USDA and Open Food Facts) lives on your phone. Lookups can happen without sending the whole catalog to us.
Subscriptions
If you subscribe, purchase status may be synced so Premium features unlock. See section 6.
5. How we use information
- To identify foods and show nutrition and score estimates
- To keep your food log and trends
- To run Ask/Chat and fair AI usage limits
- To unlock paid features you buy
- To secure the service and fix bugs
- To respond if you contact support
We do not use your food log to sell ads. We do not sell personal information.
6. Sharing — and what we do not share
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We do not share your user profile or food log with other companies for their own marketing.
To run GoodFat we use a small set of processors that only get what they need to do their job:
- Supabase — account auth, database, and secure edge functions
- Google Gemini — food ID from a photo or chat text (transient processing; photos are not kept by GoodFat)
- Superwall — paywall and subscription presentation on native builds
- Apple / Google — App Store or Play billing when you buy Premium
- RevenueCat (when connected) — subscription status sync for Premium access
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect people from serious harm or fraud.
7. Where data lives
Account and synced log data are stored with our cloud provider (Supabase). Copies of your food log and chat can also stay on your phone. The nutrition pack is stored on your device.
8. Keeping data
- Photos: not retained by GoodFat as a saved gallery.
- Food log and account: kept while your account exists.
- AI usage records: kept to enforce limits and run the service.
9. Your choices
- You can use Ask without attaching a photo.
- You can edit or remove foods from your log in the app.
- Delete account in Settings removes your auth user and related cloud rows we control. Local copies on that phone are cleared when you delete the app.
For privacy requests, email support@goodfat.app.
10. Children
GoodFat is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). Do not use the app if you are under that age.
11. Security
We use standard industry protections (including encrypted connections). No method of storage or transfer is 100% safe, so please use a device you trust.
12. Changes
If we update this policy, we will change the “Last updated” date on this page. Big changes may also be noted in the app.
